Carpet Installation and Flooring FAQ's
Q:How do I get square yardage?
A:To convert square feet to square yards all you have to do is take your length times width and divide by nine.
Example: 12x12 room = 144 sq. ft. divided by 9 = 16 yds. Allow an average of about 5% waste.
Q:Do I have to buy extra material?
A:Carpet comes most commonly in 12 foot widths. If you have a room that is 10xl0, you will need to get a 12x10 piece, so there will be some waste. Linoleum comes in 6&12 foot widths. With linoleum you usually have a pattern match, so you will need to order extra for the pattern match. Tile and wood are sold by the carton or box, so there is going to be some left over.
Q:Do we have to empty the rooms of all furniture?
A:It makes for a better job if the rooms are empty, because the installers are not working around a lot of furniture.
Some helpful hints:
- Please remove as much furniture as possible (end tables, coffee tables, small chairs, etc.)
- If dressers or hutches are present, please remove drawers and the contents. The installer will move the unit.
- If the closets are being done, please remove anything from the floor to two feet up so this area is clear.
- If your draperies hang to the floor please use a coat hanger and attach it to the rod to keep them up off the floor.
- If you have a waterbed, please drain and dismantle it the day before the installation.
- Please strip all bedding off of the beds (sheets, quilts, etc.)
- Installers will vacuum, if you supply a vacuum.
- Installers do not install one room at a time
We know there can be exceptions in regards to moving some items like pool tables, grand pianos, safes, etc. We will discuss these items when we see the room and see what we can do.
Q:Do I have to be home?
A:All our carpet and flooring installers are licensed and bonded, as are we. We will try our best to work with your schedule. You can hide a key or drop one off to us, meet us there or stay on the job. It's all the same to us.
